Five EU missions tackling major societal challenges under Horizon EU kick off in 2021. Targeted, measurable, time-dependent missions covering different disciplines, sectors and actors. And everyone has a say in how they are shaped.
Conquering Cancer: Together we can make the mission possible
Cancer is a major challenge to our societies and wellbeing. Despite of having only 10% of the world’s population, Europe has a quarter of all cancers worldwide. It affects too many people, too often and too early.
The overall goal of the mission has been formulated as: “By 2030, more than 3 million lives saved, living longer and better”.
A plan for the mission was published on June 25th, representing the vision of what the mission should achieve and how it could be done. The Cancer Mission Board - a mix of scientists, clinicians, patient representatives, lawyers and industry - believes the actions to conquer cancer should focus on its understanding, prevent what is preventable, optimise diagnostics and treatment, support quality of life during and after treatment, and ensure that all people across the European Union can benefit from the best possible care.
To make the mission possible, a new level of cooperation is necessary between researchers, policy-makers, clinicians, institutions, countries and you. To conquer cancer it is fundamental that the mission delivers on people’s needs and expectations. There is no one better than yourself to speak about it.

The purpose of the upcoming event is to discuss with you and others what concerns you about cancer, and what should be the priorities for the mission. The outcomes of each event will be used by the Cancer Mission Board to adjust, change or add actions foreseen in the mission.
Get involved in the Cancer mission. We are all concerned when it comes to our health and wellbeing.
